Having A Baby? Sweet!

Everybody needs omega-3s, including mothers and mothers-to-be. But did you know that mothers need extra omega-3 DHA during pregnancy and while breastfeeding? Simris® Algae Omega-3 for Mothers was designed especially for this exciting time in your life.

What is DHA?

DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) is an omega-3 fatty acid mainly found in marine organisms. It’s produced by algae, and accumulates in fish and seafood through the food they eat. DHA is one of the nutrients we need in our diets: an important building block for our eyes and our brains. It can be obtained through either the food we eat or supplements. For growing fetuses and breastfed infants, DHA plays an even more critical role by supporting the normal development of their eyes and brains. This is why pregnant and breastfeeding women are advised to increase their intake of omega-3 DHA.

Simris® Algae Omega-3 for Mothers has been specifically formulated for pregnant and breastfeeding women, and supplies the extra amount of DHA recommended during this period by the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority). However, DHA is just as important for non-pregnant people as well. DHA contributes to normal brain function and vision in all of us, both children and adults.

Completely plant-based and free from toxins

Simris® Algae Omega-3 for Mothers is entirely plant-based and is made with omega-3 DHA from farmed algae. This is the same precious omega-3 DHA that’s found in fish oil and krill, but comes straight from its natural source. The algae are grown in closed systems to ensure a safe, pure omega-3 oil of the highest quality without the environmental toxins and pollutants that can be found in fatty fish and fish oil.

Simris® Algae Omega-3 for Mothers is an excellent choice for vegetarians and vegans, but also for anyone worried about heavy metals and toxins in fatty fish.

How About Algae and Iodine?

You may have heard that algae such as seaweed and kelp can contain a lot of iodine. Too much iodine can adversely affect both the function of our thyroids and, in pregnant women, the fetus. Fortunately, the type of algae that are grown to make omega-3s contains no iodine. The omega-3 oil in our capsules therefore contains no iodine either, and Simris® Omega-3 for Mothers is completely free from iodine.

Recommended daily intake

The intake of DHA by pregnant and lactating mothers contributes to the normal development of foetus’ and infants’ brains and vision. This effect comes with a daily intake of at least 200 mg of omega-3 DHA for pregnant and breastfeeding women in addition to the recommended daily intake of 250 mg of omega-3 EPA and DHA for everyone. Two capsules of Simris® Algae Omega-3 for Mothers contain 200 mg of DHA which come from farmed algae.

Simris® Algae Omega-3 for Mothers is best combined with a balanced, healthy diet or with other omega-3 products that include both EPA and DHA in order to reach the full recommendation.
